Pray for wisdom and revelation
"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation unto the knowledge of him, and enlighten the eyes of your heart, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of his glorious inheritance for the saints,"
Ephesians 1:17-18
The Bible speaks often of wisdom. It teaches that it should be sought every day and that it is better to be wise than rich. Scripture also says that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord and that finding a wise wife is a great joy.
But unfortunately, it is wisdom that people seek the least. We tend to chase wealth or pleasure, and wise people sometimes seem dull and sullen. When we hear "wise man," we often conjure up an image of a guy with big glasses who reads books all the time.
Why, then, does Paul pray for everyone to have wisdom? And why does the Bible talk so much about it? I think the answer is simple: God's wisdom is the ability to do what God wants us to do. That is why Paul also asks for revelation for us as well. If you read the Bible and understand what it says, the next step is to learn how to apply that knowledge to your life. Wisdom is to look at your life and figure out how to act in a way that is pleasing to God. This is the kind of wisdom that Paul and all of Scripture speaks of.
So strive to begin each day with prayer and reading God's Word so that when you are faced with a choice, you can make the right decision.
